Maui – The Valley Isle

Here is a nice time-lapse capturing of a sunrise at Haleakala National Park, Maui.

[“I recorded this whole event in about an hour. Then edited and compressed (in time) into 2 minutes. The result is a very dynamic cloud/sun movement. Just bear in mind that when you actually go up there, the clouds nor the sun move this quickly. I love watching the Haleakala Sunrise. I’ve been to Maui a few times and have gone up there pretty much when I’m there.”]

While everyone who goes to Maui hears about the incredible experience of catching sunrise at the House of the Sun, Haleakala, what many people don’t realize is that you can sleep in and catch an equally amazing Haleakala Sunset!

[“Amazing sunset over the clouds filmed near the summit of Haleakala volcano in Maui on July 27, 2010. Some sections have been sped up by a factor of 10. All of the footage was shot over an approximately 50 minute interval with a Panasonic GH1 with the stock 14-140mm lens (28-280mm equivalent) at various focal lengths. A rock was used as a tripod. The music is from youtube’s stock of appropriate length musical pieces and is entitled Somnus, God of Sleep by the group Musicshake.”]

Another must-see-go-do-experience on Maui is the famous Road-to-Hana with its 600 turns and 54 bridges…many of which are just a single-lane wide, which explains why you should plan on a full-day to cover the short 50-mile trip.

[“Road to Hana best stops. See http://www.lahaina-family-vacation.com/road-to-hana.html for more on the Hana highway. This Hana coast video includes Honomanu Bay, Keanae Park, Waikani (Three Bears) Falls, Nahiku Cove, the black sand beach at Waanapanapa State Park, Wailua Falls, and Oheo Gulch (seven sacred pools) including the Pipiwai Trail and Makahiku Falls with the Infinity Pool.

“We visited this on our Lahaina family vacation.” Video by Randy Willis.]

And, if you happen to be in Hawaii during the winter whale migratory season, you can get up close to these gentle giants by taking a Whale-Watching Cruise.

Kauai Sea Caves along the NaPali coastline of Kauai.

Uploaded by napaliriders on May 14, 2011

[“Kauai Sea Caves Tours. We captured the best video clips from touring sea caves along Napali Coast Kauai. Waters are incredible, just stunning. Colors will amaze. The sea caves are eroded portions of Na Pali Coast. Some are actually lava tubes that were hollowed out over millions of years. The Zodiac raft can get into the caves and explore. Check out the waterfalls gushing over the entrances of sea caves, and even right through them.”]
